Creative app comparison

ArtCraft Adobe clones: which app does what?

ArtCraft Adobe clones are separate open-source applications built around familiar Adobe workflows. PhotoCraft targets layered image editing, VectorCraft vector illustration and EffectCraft motion graphics. This guide maps seven creative apps to their Adobe counterparts, explains what that comparison does—and does not—tell you, and points to downloads or browser trials.

ArtCraft Adobe clones: seven apps at a glance

The project READMEs identify these Adobe counterparts. Use the comparison to choose an application for a task; it does not establish feature parity, identical rendering or native-project interchange. The final column is our suggested first check, rather than a claim that the workflow has passed.

What does “Adobe clone” mean here?

The maintainers describe these projects as clean-room reimplementations written in Rust. In this guide, “clone” refers to the workflow each project aims to recreate. It is not a claim that the applications contain Adobe code, are made by Adobe or behave identically to Adobe products.

A familiar toolbar can reduce the effort of finding a tool. It cannot tell you whether a complicated document will survive editing and saving. Treat interface familiarity, file support and a dependable final result as separate questions. ArtCraft Tools is an independent guide and host of selected Web builds, with no affiliation to Adobe or the ArtCraft team.

PhotoCraft, VectorCraft and LightCraft serve different image tasks

Start with PhotoCraft when the task needs layers, masks or a composite image. Its official documentation describes opening and saving PSD files. For a Photoshop alternative trial, use a duplicate containing the text, adjustments and masks you rely on, then reopen the saved copy in the receiving editor.

VectorCraft is the Illustrator-style route for paths and illustration. A small logo or icon provides a useful first comparison: inspect curves, gradients, text and the final SVG or PDF. Do not infer lossless native AI-file exchange from the Illustrator comparison.

LightCraft serves the photo-library and RAW-development workflow. A Lightroom alternative trial should begin with a few camera originals rather than a finished JPEG. Compare exposure, color and the output you will deliver before considering a larger library move.

FilmCraft edits sequences; EffectCraft builds compositions

FilmCraft is the Premiere Pro counterpart in the maintainer documentation. Investigate it for a sequence made from video and audio clips. A useful trial includes the same media types, timing and export destination as the intended job. The Premiere Pro comparison alone does not establish that an existing project will import correctly.

EffectCraft covers animated layers and visual effects. Its README currently says it cannot open After Effects .aep or .aepx projects, and After Effects plug-ins do not run. Its editable project format is .ecproj. The maintainer also cautions that it is not yet a replacement for After Effects on client work.

For a new title animation, a short browser trial can help you explore the composition workflow. For an existing After Effects production, first resolve project and plug-in requirements; a successful render of a new title does not solve those transfer requirements.

PdfCraft and DesignCraft cover documents at different stages

PdfCraft is the Acrobat-style PDF workbench: its README describes reading, organizing, combining and splitting PDFs. Start with a copy and check the resulting pages in another viewer. If forms or protected documents matter to your task, include those requirements in the trial.

DesignCraft is the InDesign-style page-layout project. It is the relevant comparison when you are arranging text and graphics across pages. Inspect line breaks, fonts, image placement and the exported PDF before handing the output to a colleague or printer.

WordCraft belongs to the broader ArtCraft family, but it is a word processor rather than one of the seven Adobe comparisons above. Use the WordCraft guide for a DOCX writing or review task; use the DesignCraft project documentation when the job is page layout.

Where to download ArtCraft or try an app online

For an ArtCraft download, start at the official Crafting Apps directory on getartcraft.com. Follow the chosen application to its current launcher, standalone package or repository links. Check the platform and processor before choosing a file. This guide avoids copied “latest version” installer URLs that can become stale.

This site provides independently hosted PhotoCraft and EffectCraft browser entrances, plus WordCraft for documents. The online guides identify the hosted versions and the limited checks we ran. Other apps in this comparison lead to their official projects; the table does not promise seven hosted editors.

The free, open-source Crafting Apps and ArtCraft’s AI image-and-video studio are separate offerings. Do not assume that downloading a creative app includes hosted AI generation. Check the destination and product name before creating an account or selecting a paid service.

Can ArtCraft replace Adobe in your workflow?

There is no single answer for the whole suite. Decide against a deliverable you can inspect: an editable PSD, an SVG, a short video or a print PDF. The steps below are an evaluation method, not results from a seven-app benchmark.

  1. Keep the original project and make a separate working copy, with a reference export from the current application.
  2. List the features the job depends on: fonts, layers, effects, plug-ins, color settings or review requirements.
  3. Open or recreate a small representative sample in the selected ArtCraft build.
  4. Save the editable work separately and export the actual format required by the recipient.
  5. Reopen the saved work and inspect the exported result in its destination. Record any differences before moving more files.

Choose one workflow to try first

Use this ArtCraft Adobe clones comparison to pick a focused trial. PhotoCraft is a starting point for a layered image; EffectCraft for a new animated composition. Keep your existing production route available until the saved files and final output meet the requirements of the next person using them.

Questions, answered

Which ArtCraft app is the Photoshop alternative?

PhotoCraft is the Photoshop-style image editor identified in the official project README. Its PSD support should be checked with copies of the documents you need to edit.

Are ArtCraft Adobe clones made by Adobe?

No. These are separate projects from the ArtCraft team. Their maintainers describe them as clean-room reimplementations of familiar workflows; that does not imply Adobe affiliation or complete compatibility.

Are the ArtCraft creative apps free?

The official directory describes the Crafting Apps as free and open source. The separate ArtCraft AI studio and hosted generation services should be checked independently.

Can EffectCraft open an After Effects project?

The maintainer README currently says .aep and .aepx import and After Effects plug-ins are unsupported. EffectCraft saves its own .ecproj projects.

Can I use every ArtCraft Adobe clone online here?

No. This site hosts PhotoCraft, EffectCraft and WordCraft Web builds. The other applications in this comparison have official project links; a downloadable Web package is not automatically a hosted editor here.

Is WordCraft an Adobe clone?

WordCraft is ArtCraft’s word processor for document work. It is not included in this seven-app Adobe workflow comparison; DesignCraft is the page-layout counterpart to InDesign.
