Choose the right kind of editor

Use a visual vector editor when you need to draw paths, arrange shapes or build an illustration. Use a markup viewer when you need to inspect SVG code or make a targeted change to an icon.

VectorCraft documents SVG import and export. SVG Viewer offers viewing, editing and optimization controls. Neither application is embedded on this page.

A simple SVG workflow

Keep an original copy. Open the SVG in your chosen tool, check its dimensions and viewBox, then make one change at a time. Save a separate output and inspect it where it will actually appear.

For a website icon, check a small display size as well as a large preview. A vector that looks fine on its own may clip when placed inside a fixed-size button.

SVG editing is different from image conversion

SVG stores vector instructions and can also reference embedded images. Renaming a PNG to SVG does not trace shapes. Exporting an SVG as PNG rasterizes it into pixels.

If your task is delivery of a web image rather than editable paths, use the image-converter guide. Read the SVG vs PNG article for the format tradeoffs.

Questions, answered

Is there an SVG editor on this site?

No. This page links to external tools and explains how to choose one.

Will a PNG become editable vectors?

Not just by changing its format. Vector tracing is a separate operation.

Can I edit a logo in SVG?

A visual vector editor is a suitable category to investigate. Font and artwork compatibility still require checking.
